This week I learned that teachers have seven different types of educational software they can use in their classrooms to further students learning. The seven different types of educational software are drill-and-practice, problem solving, creative/critical thinking, tutorials, simulations, image editing, and draw/paint. The educational software that I have seen most used and plan on using in my classroom is the drill-and-practice software. Drill-and-practice program is very beneficial to students!
Drill-and-practice software is a computer program that gives immediate feedback to students. This program allows the students to review previously learned concepts. This type of program is essential to aiding in sustaining, refining, or perfecting already learned knowledge. Drill-and-practice allows the students to answer questions and receive either written or voice/visual feedback on their answer. Drill-and-practice is immense help in encouraging students to memorize or master their skills. Drill-and-practice is broken up into two parts: drills and test aspects. The drill part presents students with items to master while the second part presents student with the development of their skills (test aspect). Drill-and-practice helps students memorize spelling and vocabulary of words, helps students use addition and subtraction more efficiently, and can help to increase students reading abilities. The drills used in drill-and-practice are repetitive and are great help as reinforcement tools.
Drill-and-practice will help me obtain my instructional objectives and goals by assisting my students in being more diligent readers, giving them the ability to use basic addition and subtraction more easily and quickly, and allowing my students to be more efficient spellers! Drill-and-practice makes learning more fun for my students, helping to be better motivate them for their lessons. Because drill-and-practice permits my students to work hands on and is a repetitive learning style program my students can better understand the knowledge they obtain, even so much as memorizing it! As we all know a better understanding of something gives us an advantage when it comes to reusing our knowledge in an appropriate way. Also a better understanding of the lessons I teach will gives my students more confidence!
I am not in a classroom yet however when I am in a classroom I do plan to use drill-and-practice for all its offered benefits. Drill-and-practice will be used with my students for increased reading abilities, improved spelling abilities and an all together better understanding of basic math skills. Drill-and-practice will allow my students to practice and improve what they already know and I will certainly take advantage of this program!
